Crown-tipped Coral

Forests, parks, bogs. Summer, autumn.

Fruiting body 3–13 cm tall, with richly branched upright branchlets growing from a thick central stem, each ending at the tip in a neat toothed little cup, as if for holding a miniature candle. Young ones pale yellow, old ones brown, sometimes even with a greyish, violet tinge. Flesh bitter-tasting. Characteristic features: fruiting bodies regularly branched, the tips of the branchlets as if capped with a miniature toothed cup. Grows in forests and parks on aspen, birch, willow, rarely on coniferous wood, sometimes in colonies. Inedible because of its bitterness, common.
