Pine Bolete
Boletus pinophilus

Pine forests. Summer, autumn.
Fruiting bodies massive, large. Cap grows up to 25 cm across, pinkish, reddish-brown, purplish-brown, sometimes with a violet bloom. Tubes greyish, when old greenish. Stem 5-15 cm long, sometimes even 6-9 cm thick, yellowish-brownish, swollen in the middle. Flesh white, not changing colour when cut, with a pleasant smell and taste. Characteristic features: the cap and stem are more red, violet-purple in colour than those of the Porcini. Grows singly, often in groups, in pine forests. Very common. The most valuable edible mushroom. In great demand on the local and foreign markets. Medical scientists have become interested in these boletes.
