Scurfy Inkcap
Coprinus saccharinus

Forests, parks. Summer, autumn.
Fruiting bodies small. Cap 3-5 cm across, bluntly conical, sand-coloured, yellowish-brown, white-scurfy, fibrous, furrowed, pleated. Gills whitish, cream, old ones blackish-brown. Stem 5-7 (8)x0.3–0.5 cm, white, cream, with a white bloom. Flesh thin, fragile, yellowish, without any particular smell or taste. Characteristic features: cap yellowish-brown, white-“powdered”, spores almost round. Grows on old stumps and windfalls, in tufts. Rare. A wood saprotroph, food value unknown. The glistening inkcap and this inkcap are easily confused, especially at the mature, old stage.
