Palomino Cup

Forests, parks, gardens – open places. Spring, summer, autumn.

Fruiting bodies medium-sized, 5-10 cm across and up to 3-5 cm tall, rarely larger, like deep bowls, when mature irregularly wavy saucer-shaped, stalkless or with an inconspicuous short stem sunk in the substrate. Cap somewhat wrinkled, grey or even dark brown, the underside (of young ones) of similar colour, pale-granular, becoming paler to whitish as it grows, and especially as it dries. Flesh yellowish, fragile. Grows singly or several fruiting bodies together, on the ground, favouring humus-rich soil, sometimes even rotted wood, but also grows well in sandy places. Uncommon. Some sources state that it is edible.
