Orange Grisette
Amanita crocea

Coniferous and deciduous forests, likes boggy places. Summer, autumn.
Fruiting bodies large. Cap 5-12 cm across, bell-shaped, later flattened, with a blunt umbo, slimy, finely scaly in dry weather, very rarely with remnants of a white coating, ochre-orange, ochre, margins grooved. Gills white, broad, when old cream. Stem 8-12 (15)x1-2 cm, thickening towards the base, hollow, without a ring, yellowish-orange, finely scaly, with a volva that is white outside and yellow inside. Flesh white, soft, with a pleasant smell and taste. Characteristic features: cap helmet-shaped, prominently grooved. Grows singly, rarely in groups. Edible, but it can be confused with the Common Amanita (paprastoji musmirė), therefore collecting it is not recommended. Often grows together with the Tawny Grisette, but being orange in colour and finely scaly, especially the stem, it is easily distinguished.
