Conifer Blueing Bracket
Postia caesia – Inedible

Coniferous, more rarely deciduous forests. Autumn.
Fruiting bodies annual. Caps semicircular, 2-7 cm wide, 1-5 cm across and up to 1 cm thick, growing singly or in small groups – several together, one above another. Surface rough, hairy, wrinkled-shaggy, faintly zoned, white, grey, soon becoming dirty greenish-blackish-blue. Underside white, whitish or cream, pores tiny, soon darkening, turning bluish immediately when pressed. Flesh soft, white, turning bluish. Characteristic features: its dirty-blue fruiting bodies easily distinguish it from other Postia species and make it easy to recognise. Grows only on dead coniferous, rarely deciduous wood, causing a brown rot of the wood. Not rare.
