Fruiting bodies large. Cap 5-10 cm across, sometimes larger, surface smooth, rarely with remnants of the yellow veil, slimy, shiny, pale yellowish-brown, orange-brown, margins grooved. Gills white, later yellowish, free. Stem 7-16x0.5-1.5 cm, white, without a ring, at the base with a loose whitish, brownish volva. Flesh white, soft, without a particular smell or taste. Characteristic features: stem without a ring, white, long, gradually thickening towards the base. Grows singly or in small groups, quite often in boggy pine forests, among sphagnum mosses.
