Beech Webcap
Cortinarius fagetorum

Deciduous and mixed forests. Summer, autumn.
Fruiting bodies tiny, small. Cap 0.5–1.5 cm across, conical at first, later convex-flattened, flattened, with a sharp umbo, surface smooth, becoming rough and even finely scaly when dried, the margin furrowed or smooth, dark brownish-red, chestnut-coloured, fading in dry weather to brownish-yellowish. Gills ochre-brown, adnate. Stem 1.5-4x0.1-0.3 cm, of even thickness, hollow, from pale to dark reddish-brown, white-fibrous. Flesh yellowish, brown, thin, slightly bitter-tasting. Characteristic features: tiny fungi, cap with a pointed, sharp umbo. Grows mostly in autumn, singly or in small groups among grass, under beeches. Otherwise rare, although in the Dubrava forests (Kaunas district) it is often found under beeches.
