Grisette
Amanita vaginata

Coniferous and deciduous forests, often boggy places. Summer, autumn.
Fruiting bodies large. Cap 5-9 (12) cm across, but also grows larger, grey, ash-grey, surface smooth, without scales, in rare cases with white remnants of the veil, margins grooved. Gills white, broad, free. Stem up to 20 cm long and 1-2 cm thick, without a ring, white, grey, paler than the cap, at the base with a loose, large, unattached, white or greyish volva. Flesh white, soft, thick, without a particular smell. Characteristic features: cap without scales, the grey colour of the fruiting body varies, even to white. Grows singly or in small groups. Edible, but of low value and not advisable to collect, because it resembles poisonous Amanitas. Not rare, quite widespread in places.
